2020 Theater & Arts Camp Classes
As part of your registration process, you will be asked to rank classes. Once classes are confirmed, you will receive a confirmation email. Programs will be filled on a first come, first served basis. If a program is full, it will be noted here.
Both Theater & Arts camp sessions have performance based classes that will perform at the showcase at the end of each session.
5th & 6th Grade Program Selection:
Period 1:
Visual Arts: Students will do a survey of visual arts including ceramics, painting, drawing and/or mixed media. Learn, create, and explore the world of art through painting, drawing, collage, and more. This class will have a relaxed open studio atmosphere. Camper artwork will be displayed in the art gallery during each session's Camp Showcase.
Short Film Production: Small films with big impact! We’re going into production on our own short films, written, directed, and starring our students. We’ll work on various projects at scenic locations in and around our building and even downtown New Haven. Campers will experiment with various styles and genres such as Music Videos, Comedy, Sci-Fi and Action/Suspense. This class concentrates on screen acting, camera composition, pre-production storyboarding, and directorial techniques.
Period 2:
Digital Photography: Do you love to take pictures or just want to learn how to take better photos? Explore New Haven through the lens of a digital camera (provided) and share the world through your eyes. Each student will be able to print up to 5 photos at the end of each session to display in the Showcase Gallery and keep!
Acting: Have you always wanted to try acting but haven’t had the chance? Or have you tried acting once or twice but want more?! Then this class is for you! You will learn the fundamentals of acting in an exciting and safe environment; you will access different parts of your personality, work with others, and learn how to bring written words to life! This class will perform a short play in the Camp Showcase.
Period 3:
Showcase Committee:TECH:
Looking for camp leaders! This program brings campers of all grades together as they learn how to create an artist performance. This committee will work on props, costumes, lighting, sound, and scenery for the Camp Showcase. All artists-- musicians, visual artists, and performers-- are needed to make this the best Showcase ever! (NOTE: Don't worry, you WILL still participate in the showcase with your other classes).
Graphic Design: Students use the Mac lab to create posters for all camp performances and set up the camp showcase art gallery. This class takes a trip to a Yale art museum to study museum layouts.
Dance: Drawing from the styles of modern, jazz and hip-hop dance, this upbeat, age-appropriate class teaches students the fundamentals of dance and choreography. Students will develop coordination, rhythm, self-expression, and discipline in this fun class! Students will perform a choreographed piece during the Camp Showcase.
Puppetry & Props: Students will create their own puppets as well as work on creating props for the musicals and showcase.
